Grand Theft Auto 5

The Grand theft Auto series has been an incredible success over the past decade. From humble beginnings on the PC and the original Playstation as a top down game about driving fast and killing people the game has evolved over the years into one of the most successful game series of all time. Not only has the game moved from Playstation to 3DS, to Vita and Xbox over the years, but it has also shifted from that classic top down perspective into a fully three dimensional world, winning countless awards for its satirical depiction of a fiction United States. The latest in the series, Grand Theft Auto 5, has set records in sales across numerous platforms. The game did away with the more serious... Read More

Candy Crush: Ruining Lives one swipe at a time

Posted on April 27, 2015 by Terry

I was never really into gaming on my phone. Probably because my battery life is that bad that any kind of foray into gaming will quickly burn through my only method of communication with the digital world. The other reason is that games tend to be a little bit more simple than ones I like. I did, however, try out the one online game that everyone and their mothers seemed to be playing. That game was Candy Crush. The game is as simple as I’d feared but, especially as the game progresses, becomes increasingly more challenging. The game is, to all intents and purposes, a “match three of the same colour” game. By doing so you then work your way to clearing the stage. The game was... Read More

What a success story. What a rush. The story of Pillars of Eternity is a long and fascinating one. Obsidian Entertainment, on the verge of bankruptcy, took to Kickstarter, a crowd funding website, to pitch their game idea. That idea was a return to the classic isometric role playing games of yore; Baldur’s gate, Icewind Dale and Planescape: Torment – a genre that publishers simply wouldn’t touch for fear that the audience wasn’t interested. How wrong they were. The game raised almost four million dollars by the time the campaign ended. Now we’re on the eve of the game launching; the game has now amassed more than the four million dollars they got during their Kickstarter,... Read More

This is not exactly the 14th entry in the Don Bradman Cricket series. In fact it is not even close to being that. It was released in 2014, the year before the ICC One Day World Cup, which was a shame, but the quality of the game has done wonders to maintain decent sales figures. Also the less we talk about the 2015 World Cup the better for us English cricket fans eh? Anyway; the game, made in Australia, launched last year to some decent reviews and sales. The game featured a revolutionary control scheme to aid players who truly understand the game. Both for bowling and batting the game supports all levels of players, the highest difficulty truly testing even the most hardened cricket fan.... Read More

Torchlight is a game from Runic Games – a games developer formed from several key members of the team that created the first two legendary Diablo games. After the second game’s release, and the release of the expansion, development slowed on the Diablo franchise for Blizzard to focus on other projects, like World of Warcraft. When focus shifted many veterans felt disgruntled and formed their own studio to continue working on games in that style. Torchlight was the first game to come out of Runic and, true to form, it was a top down dungeon crawler and loot hoarding game heavily inspired by the Diablo games. The music, too, was even composed by the composer on the first two games,... Read More
